FSU football is in need of clarity when it comes to the quarterback spot, and getting their latest transfer eligible immediately has become job number one.

For the last week since the signing day for February came and went, the focus on the FSU football team has not been the massive amount of secondary or offensive line talent that was brought in for those positions of need – nope, it has been on the fact that for the second straight class, the Seminoles did not sign a quarterback recruit.

In 2018, it wasn’t that big of a deal because the Noles had both Deondre Francois and James Blackman on the roster and things were fine. Now, with Francois gone following his horrible audio recorded threats toward a former girlfriend, it is literally just Blackman as the only scholarship quarterback eligible for the upcoming season.

As the de facto starter right now, Blackman would have the prayers of the entire FSU football nation in hopes that he stays upright most of the season and doesn’t get hurt – because, as of this point, walk-on Nolan McDonald would be the one taking over the snaps in that case.

All that could change in the coming weeks (hopefully) if the NCAA approves the wavier from Jordan Travis to play immediately gets approved. Travis, who transferred after his freshman season at Louisville, currently can’t come close to thinking about suiting up this season per transfer rules.

However, in recent days the NCAA showed a little bit more leniency on this issue with the decision to approve the immediate eligibility of Justin Fields after his transfer from Georgia to Ohio State (h/t NBC Sports College Football Talk)

"According to previous reports, the basis for the waiver filed by Fields was a racist slur hurled at him at Georgia by a baseball player (who has since been dismissed at Georgia) along with adjusted transfer rules focusing on transfers due to “mitigating circumstances” out of a player’s control."

Now, I am not trying to downplay what took place with Fields and that horrible moment for Bulldogs nation, but when Fields later made comments about how part of him is “always going to be a Bulldog” it doesn’t sound like the incident shook him enough to transfer and was more about playing time he wasn’t going to see.

NCAA rules have gotten more loose when it comes to transfers, including the allowance of them in cases that have nothing to do with football. Can Travis, a native of the West Palm Beach area, use the argument of playing closer to home as his reasoning? Maybe he’ll use the change in coaching staff at Louisville as his reason as some other transfers across the country have for their cases.

However it takes place, FSU football needs Travis to be eligible for next season. No, I don’t think he would beat out Blackman at this point to be the starter but the Seminoles need a scholarship backup just in case the Swiss cheese offensive line sticks around (no disrespect toward McDonald.)

So, for the moment, the Seminoles are at the mercy of maybe the most inconsistent group in all of sports – a group that punished the Noles and Missouri for admitting to cheating but let UNC walk for much worse.
