Familiarity

One of the biggest things you’ll usually notice when coaches look to make hires familiarity. It’s one of the reasons Taggart initially targeted Dugans when he was looking to assemble his staff last season.

Dugans spent the 2014-2015 seasons working as the wide receivers coach at South Florida when Willie Taggart was head coach there.

One noticeable item is Taggart wound up hiring a number of coaches with whom he had not coached with prior to last season.

Walt Bell (offensive coordinator, Harlon Barnett (defensive coordinator) and Greg Frey (offensive line coach) had no prior relationship with Taggart prior to last season.

That meant there’s an acclimation period to understand what’s expected and becoming familiar with how Willie Taggart likes to do things.

That won’t be the case for Dugans due to the prior experience and he said as much with a statement issues to Seminoles.com:

"I am extremely excited to be back at Florida State. My family and I are so appreciative of this opportunity presented to us by Coach Taggart. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the way he runs a program and that helps me come in and hit the ground running because I know exactly what he expects from me as a member of his staff."

Boom, there you go straight from the man himself.
