CFP Championship: Thoughts on Clemson destroying Alabama
By Kelvin Hunt
Clemson destroyed Alabama to win its second CFP Championship in the last three seasons. I give my thoughts on the win from a FSU perspective.
I picked Clemson to beat Alabama in the CFP Championship just like I did the last time they met in the CFP Championship game.
It was a one-sided beatdown after a tightly contested first quarter with Clemson’s offense running up and down the field on Alabama.
Clemson’s defense forced turnovers, stopped a Alabama fake field goal and even scored a touchdown.
It’s one of the worst beatdown we’ve seen given to Alabama in recent memory.
Here’s the sad part:
The FSU defense competed well before succumbing to one of the worst FSU losses in recent memory. It wasn’t helped by an anemic offense, but this isn’t anything that can overcome in one year folks.
Thoughts
I think most FSU football fans in the know understand there’s a huge gap between Clemson and FSU at the moment. Clemson has a quarterback in Trevor Lawrence that would be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft right now.
They have a crop of young receivers that are big, fast and physical and nearly unstoppable with a quarterback like Lawrence.
Travis Etienne is arguably the best running back in the country.
Clemson has one of the best defensive coordinators in the game with Brent Venables their program continues to recruit at a high level.
The scary part is FSU has to face Lawrence, Etienne and these receivers next year. In fact, they’ll have to face Lawrence and those receivers for two more years.
Clemson’s program is as solid as they come. They have confidence that they can beat anyone they go up against and that’s something I pointed out in my preview of the CFP Championship game.
Long story short FSU fans? Clemson’s the new measuring stick for at least the next two seasons and it won’t be until these players leave that FSU can possibly compete unless recruiting picks up or the Noles land an elite QB of sorts.
