FSU football rejoiced when Mark Richt signed an extension with Miami earlier this season. Now fans must wonder about who Miami will hire with his retirement.

FSU football defeated Mark Richt the first year he was hired at Miami, but lost the last two games with Mark Richt as head coach there.

All three games were razor close with FSU giving both games away that they lost. I argued that FSU was better off with Mark Richt at the head coach at Miami.

He was never going to get them back to elite status like their fans believed, after all, he was 7-6 in his third season.

Their recruiting has plummeted and become a laughing-stock with their list of de-commitments ranking higher than their actual class.

The Canes getting demolished for the second consecutive year by Wisconsin in their bowl game was enough to tip the scales with Mark Richt announcing he was retiring Sunday.

Thoughts

Mark Richt was good enough to keep Miami at a .500 or so program just like Al Golden and Randy Shannon before him. The last tweet is in reference to Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal who many believe is the No. 1 target to replace Richt.

Would he leave Oregon to come to Miami the way Willie Taggart left them to come to FSU football?

Oregon fans might hurt someone for real if that were to happen, and FSU fans could talk smack to Miami fans the same way they did FSU fans when Taggart was hired.

I can’t trust Miami to make a good hire as they’ve missed the mark the last three times which has been great for the Noles.

I would think Cristobal, Lane Kiffen and probably former coach Butch Davis would be options. All of them probably would be an upgrade over Mark Richt.

It’ll be interesting to see how they decide to hire and it’ll say a lot about their commitment to football which seems to be lacking as of late.
