FSU Rivals: Miami fans getting scared over chance of Manny Diaz leaves Canes

While FSU is in the market for a new offensive coordinator, the Hurricanes could soon be looking for a new defensive leader if Diaz takes the Temple job.

Across the world of college football, teams are working to complete their rosters for the 2019 season and – more importantly – knowing who they can tell the incoming recruiting class will be coaching them in the coming season. FSU football is one of those teams after offensive coordinator bolted for UMass to be the new head coach of the Minutemen.

As it turns out, a major rival of the Seminoles could be in the same boat on the defensive side of the ball. According to reports, Miami Hurricanes defensive coordinator Manny Diaz will reportedly become the next head coach of the Temple Owls after three seasons leading his hometown Canes on that side of the ball.

Already, the news is being met with quite the bit or worry from members of the media – like Greg Cote of the Miami Herald – and members of the fan base.

"Hiring him was the best decision Mark Richt has made in his three years as UM head coach. Losing him would be Richt’s biggest loss yet, a massive gut punch to the program underlined by awful timing.Stake your ground on keeping Diaz. Make a statement about how serious you are to see The U all the way back to national prominence, because the defense and what Diaz has brought is the best, most reliable thing about the program right now, and second place isn’t close."

Even with all the issues we have had this season, it is still nice to see when a rival of FSU has their own meltdown period – especially when what used to be “The U” was brought back to earth seemingly after pulling off a miracle to come back and beat the Seminoles this past season.

All jokes aside, the FSU grad Diaz has been the best thing that happened for Miami over the past three seasons as the defense finished ranked third in the country last season after being 41st last season and 23rd in the country in 2016. It drove us crazy the past two seasons, but the Hurricanes would have had two more losing seasons if not for Diaz’s side of the ball.

In reality, the world of coaching is not a long term thing anymore. We got spoiled at FSU with a 30+ year stint with Bobby Bowden along with assistants that stuck around for a while (Mickey Andrews 25+ seasons, Chuck Amato nearly 15 the first stint, even Mark Richt for almost 15 seasons) – something that is almost extinct in current college football.

But, if Diaz does leave,that collective sigh of relief you hear in Tallahassee and other locations will be enough to mask the massive crying from Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
