FSU recruiting is in the mix for a number of top blue chip players in 2019. One will be making his decision soon that will impact the Noles tremendously.

FSU recruiting has been holding steady despite the rough 2018 season that saw the Noles bowl streak and 41 straight seasons with a winning record come to an end.

Coach Willie Taggart is working to get the players in he needs to be successful after the old regime left the cupboard more bare than most want to admit.

One of those areas is the FSU offensive line that was one of the worst in the Power 5 conferences in 2018. FSU recruiting is looking to address that need in the 2019 class and already have a huge commitment from four-star Dontae Lucas.

The Noles are looking to add another in four-star William Putnam. Putnam is a top 100 composite player nationally and is expected to sign and enroll early with whichever school he decides to pledge his commitment to.

It’ll be a short wait as Putnam posted the following to his Twitter account Monday night.

Thoughts

Putnam is been on FSU’s radar a long time and has visited campus multiple times. It’s a FSU, Auburn and Clemson battle.

Coach Willie Taggart visited Putnam a couple days ago with Grey Frey and Raymond Woodie Jr. visiting him a week or so prior to that.

There’s no doubt Putnam would fill a huge need as he’s being recruited as a center but could play guard too. Senior Alec Eberle has exhausted his eligibility and Putnam would have a shot at competing for early playing time since he’ll be an enrolling in January.

Also, one of the most underrated things I like about Putnam is his amateur wrestling background.

He’s a state champion wrestler and I can’t tell you how invaluable that experience will be for him playing on the offensive line.

Wrestlers have outstanding core strength, balance and most of all the mindset needed to be a dominant offensive lineman. I like Putnam a lot and hopes he picks the Noles as he and Lucas would be huge pieces of the future of the offensive line.

The early signing period will be December 19th-21st.
