The fourth College Football Playoff rankings will be released for the 2018 season on Tuesday night, and the Chop Chat staff as ideas of who will be there

Ladies and gentlemen, we have officially hit the halfway point of the College Football Playoff rankings – with just one week left in the regular season and another one for the big boy conferences to find out their champions – as we will have three more rankings to be released over the next 13 days.

After there was no change between then second and third rankings that were released, there are plenty of people who would expect things to remain the same among the top three teams and allow the half dozen team who are waiting patiently behind them to get into the system – including a FSU football team with quite the resume of quality losses and a ranked win.

But, until we reach that point where there is no controversy when it come to who are the four teams heading to the show, this is what we are stuck with – and since we love stirring up debate, here’s how our staff sees this week’s rankings looking.

Jason Parker’s Picks

No. 1 – Clemson Tigers

I’m still going to give the edge to the men from the Palmetto State more for the reason that they actually beat a decent team this week and didn’t struggle to be tied with an inferior foe like a certain other team who shall remain nameless.

No. 2 – Alabama Crimson Tide

Oh, I’m sorry…was I talking about you guys? Seriously, I get that everyone is due for a game each season where they don’t live up to standards – but being tied with The Citadel at the half eliminates them from the conversation of best team ever.

No. 3 – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

An argument could be made that Syracuse was overrated by the College Football Playoff committee, but even with that the men from South Bend went all the way to the Bronx and did their job in a big way this weekend.

No. 4 – Michigan Wolverines

It’s a tough battle for this spot, but I’m going to keep it with Michigan since their win last week was at least over a team that could make a bowl game with a win during the final weekend of the regular season.

Outside Looking In

Oklahoma Sooners – Yeah, I know it was Kansas that they beat last weekend but Kyler Murray looks like he might just be the best overall player in the game right now.

Georgia Bulldogs – Right now, Georgia might be in a spot where a big win over Georgia Tech could at least get them into the conversation for the top four before they get beat by Alabama in the SEC title game.

Kelvin Hunt’s Picks

No. 1 – Alabama Crimson Tide

No. 2 – Clemson Tigers

No. 3 – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

No. 4 – Michigan Wolverines

Outside Looking In: Georgia Bulldogs and Washington State Huskies

Aaron Cabrera-Steele’s Picks

No. 1 – Alabama Crimson Tide

Tua is the best player in college football right now and it’s not close. The kid is a bonafide star like Jameis or Deshaun Watson. Cap that off with Alabama’s defense and I can’t see anyone beating them, but that article is for a different day.

No. 2 – Clemson Tigers

Trevor Lawerence is the next star in college football and he’s worth all the hype. I fully expect him to be the first pick in the 2021 draft with the way things are going right now. Clemson is the only team that has an actual shot against Alabama. They’re very similar, and wouldn’t be suprised to see them duke it out in the natty.

No. 3 – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

They shut me up last week. I expected Syracuse to expose them but they did the exact opposite. They are for real and need to stop being over looked. A college football playoff birth can get this program back to prominence.

No. 4 – Michigan Wolverines

Best defense in college football and Harbaugh finally has himself a QB. Easily the best one loss team in college football and it’s not close.

Next. FSU players taking pride in preserving bowl streak. dark

Outside Looking In

Oklahoma Sooners – Kyler Murray is a stud. A real one, but they have an atrocious defense who just gave up 40 to Kansas. Offense can compete with the best but can the defense muster up enough will power to stop a power house like ‘Bama or Clemson?

Washington State Cougars – The Pac 12 is a horrible conference, yes. But Wazzou can compete with some legit teams and easily is the best team in that conference. At this point anything can happen and right now I feel like they have the next best shot to sneak into the playoffs.
