FSU Football: Noles stun No. 20 Boston College in fourth quarter
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football scored a huge win against Boston College to keep their bowl hopes alive.
1st Half
FSU football took the ball first and proceeded to move the ball well on their first drive before having a field goal blocked to end the drive. Just another example of special teams being terrible.
The FSU defense played awesome, bailing the offense out after they turned the ball over twice. Defensively, the defense forced two turnovers themselves but the offense wasn’t able to capitalize on those opportunities.
Deondre Francois was awful for the most part and wasn’t helped with numerous false start calls on the offensive line. He was 12 of 26 for 157 yards and two interceptions in the first half.
Just the same old same old for the Noles as they continued to shoot themselves in the foot. They arguably should have had a comfortable lead had they been able to execute because the defense was lights out aside from one drive where Boston College converted two long third downs for first downs.
Boston College only averaged 3.84 yards per play compared to FSU averaging 4.95 ypp. BC took a 7-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.
2nd Half
Boston College received the kickoff to start the second half and marched right down the field, however, the FSU defense was able to force a stop on fourth down deep in FSU territory.
After alternating possessions the Noles were finally able to put together a touchdown drive to help the FSU defense. However, the defense immediately gave up a touchdown to after allowing multiple third and long conversions.
After another FSU punt Boston College went on a 18 play touchdown drive with a huge conversion on third and 20 which was the difference in the game basically. Boston College went up 21-13 with 13:45 left in the game.
The Noles were able to answer with a field goal after Cam Akers broke loose for a 55 yard run to cut the lead to 21-16 with 12:04 left in the game.
Boston College had a chance to put the game away as they had it fourth and 1 in FSU territory. They called timeout just to try to get FSU to jump offsides, but the most penalized defense in college football stood firm.
FSU took over with just under three minutes to go and hit Tamorrion Terry for a 74 yard touchdown to put FSU up 22-21 with 1:49 left in the game. The two-point conversion failed.
Boston College had a good kickoff return and started on their own 39 yard line needing a field goal to win it.
Boston College couldn’t gain a yard with four incomplete passes and the Noles hung on for the win with a chance to beat Florida to become bowl eligible for the 37th straight year next week.
Deondre Francois finished the game 19 of 39 for 322 yards and one touchdown against two interceptions. Cam Akers had 110 rushing yards and a touchdown to help get the Noles to 5-6 on the season.
