The third College Football Playoff rankings will be released for the 2018 season on Tuesday night, and the Chop Chat staff as ideas of who will be there.

With two weeks of games gone in the month of November, there is a pretty clear picture being painted that just a few teams are left with a decent chance of making one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff – and ironically, FSU football knows first hand about two of the teams that are considered favorites at this point.

At this point, many people that that the three undefeated teams will make it to the group of four – which would leave that door open for plenty of debate among the half dozen or so teams that have one loss or two good losses at this points – because, remember that the playoff committee does love themselves some “quality losses” on the resume of certain teams.

So, with just three weeks left until we know what teams will be heading to the fifth edition of this made for television system that is not better than the Bowl Championship Series not matter what the Worldwide Leader will tell you, who does the Chop Chat staff think is heading on?

Since we love stirring up debate, here’s how our staff sees this week’s rankings looking.

Jason Parker’s Picks

No. 1 – Clemson Tigers

Yeah, I know I am flip flopping with this each week but I am partial to a Clemson who beat a better Boston College team on the road than what the team ranked below them by me did against their worse off team at home.

No. 2 – Alabama Crimson Tide

I am not saying that Bama isn’t going to make it into the system – that would take an act of God and all the money in the world to bribe the committee. Hell, Alabama might lose two of their final three games and still find someway to make it to the group.

No. 3 – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Beating the Seminoles shouldn’t be the deciding reason for making it into the College Football Playoff, but the men from South Bend have gone out and done what they were supposed to all season and don’t have a monumental challenge left to keep them from an unbeaten season.

No. 4 – Georgia Bulldogs

Since this system loves to talk about changing from week to week, I’ll give the Bulldogs love for beating a ranked Auburn team even if it goes against all my principles of having to SEC teams in the system like last year.

Outside Looking In

Michigan Wolverines – With that huge ranked game against Ohio State coming up in less than two weeks, don’t be surprised to see the maize and blue move back into the top four if they win out.

Oklahoma Sooners – I was tempted to go with Washington State here for the whole chaos theory model, but Oklahoma has a more complete team and would actually survive in a four team playoff.

Kelvin Hunt’s Picks

No. 1 – Alabama Crimson Tide

No. 2  – Clemson Tigers

No. 3 – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

No. 4 – Michigan Wolverines

Outside Looking In – Georgia Bulldogs and Oklahoma Sooners

Aaron Carbera-Steele’s Picks

No. 1 – Alabama Crimson Tide

Another week has passed and Alabama still shows why they’re the top dogs. Tua is the best player in college football.

No. 2 – Clemson Tigers

Not quite on the level Alabama is but they’re pretty close. Dominant in all three phases of the game.

No. 3 – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

After embarrassing Florida State, I have moved ND back into the playoff race. Not as good as the others but a solid team who gets the job done.

No. 4 – Michigan Wolverines

The best one loss team in college football. Michigan is finding its stride under Jim Harbaugh. Maybe the best defense in the nation.

FSU hurting with turnovers leading to opposing points. dark. Next

Outside Looking In

Oklahoma Sooners – They can make things interesting assuming they win out. Might be Lincoln Riley’s second playoff appearance as his second year as head coach.

Georgia Bulldogs – They’re a gritty team with some real talent. They’re still very young but can make a nice push to try to get back in the playoffs.
