FSU Football: NC State rolls the Noles at Homecoming
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football got outplayed for the second consecutive week, losing in blowout fashion to an ACC Atlantic opponent.
1st half
FSU football deferred the kickoff in hopes the defense could set the tone for the day. They did as they proceeded to get the ball ran down their throat en route to giving up a touchdown on NC State’s first possession.
The FSU offense was a victim of terrible field position for most of the first half with their first two possessions beginning inside their own 10 yard line.
However, the story of the first half was FSU turning the ball over twice and committing stupid penalties. The Noles has 10 penalties for 63 yards with most of them coming of personal fouls and false starts.
James Blackman looked like a significant upgrade over Deondre Francois aside from the one interception he threw.
The FSU offense was averaging 7.67 yards per play as the FSU defense allowed 5.67 ypp as NC State led 27-14 at the half. The penalties kept drives alive for NC State as they were only two of six on third downs in the first half.
2nd half
The Noles came out in the second half and tried to set the tone by going for a fourth and 1 play on their own 34 yard line. It was absolutely the right call if they were trying to win the game.
However, the play called was awful and the play was blown up.
NC State was only able to get a field goal out of the deal to make it 30-14 with 8:49 remaining in the third quarter.
The Noles had nothing doing on their next possession and elected to punt on a similar fourth and one play. The end result was NC State marching down the field and scoring a touchdown although the referees continue to job the Noles with terrible defensive pass interference flags.
James Blackman did get the Noles on the board again with his second touchdown pass to Tamorrion Terry to make it 37-21.
The story of the second half was FSU’s defense not being able to get a stop on defense and NC State only punted once going into the fourth quarter.
NC State tacked on another touchdown to make it 44-21 with 11 minutes to go in the game and it was basically over at that point.
The final score of the game was 47-28.
