FSU football has some uncertainty around its QB position for the first time all season. Who will Willie Taggart start against NC State?

Listen, I’ve made no bones about who I think should have won the FSU football  starting job before the season started and who should be starting QB against NC State.

However, Coach Willie Taggart decided to go another direction with Deondre Francois prior to the season and has supported him through the first eight games.

He was supposedly injured in the Clemson game after getting rocked a number of time and finally gave way to James Blackman who came in and lead the Noles to their only touchdown of the day.

Coach Taggart continues to say that Francois is “day-to-day” regarding his status for the NC State game and speaks on some other issues with the media Thursday morning that can be seen below:

Thoughts

I just don’t see the purpose of trotting Deondre Francois out there against NC State for a number of reasons.

This is a team James Blackman got his first start against in 2017 so he’s somewhat familiar with what they want to do although they lost a lot of talent off their defensive line.

It’s simply time to see if James Blackman can give this offense any sort of spark. I understand the offensive line is terrible, but Blackman had the entire spring and summer to get reps in this offense.

He has been seen telling players, from the sidelines no less, that they are not in the right formations or lined up properly while Deondre Francois was under center in the game.

Just a sheer ability to look at how the defense is lined up and make the right call regarding pass or rush would be a huge step in making the offense more efficient. He’s a quite capable passer and can move around the pocket better than Francois.

If you’re worried about him getting hurt, he took massive shots all year in 2017 just like Francois does and played the entire season.

He’s as tough as they come and has an infectious attitude that could be what this team needs Saturday in a hostile environment.
