FSU Football: Noles are progressing in right direction
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football isn’t where it wants to be but it’s certainly on its way under Willie Taggart and staff. We discuss why that’s the case.
A lot of FSU football fans were in disbelief after the opening loss to Virginia Tech. The defense allowed a touchdown on Virginia Tech’s opening drive.
The offense couldn’t get out of its own way with five turnovers in the game and special teams were terrible too. However, it got worse as the Noles has to come from behind to beat Samford and then got obliterated by 30-7 by Syracuse.
Yes, Syracuse.
However, since that game the Noles have gotten a little better each game in all phases of the game.
The strongest unit on the team is the FSU defense and Harlon Barnett and staff have to be commended for what they’ve accomplished this far.
They are a top 20 defense statistically and would be rated even higher if they had more help from the FSU offense earlier in the season(they wouldn’t be playing as many snaps).
Check this out for production from the defensive line that’s allowing less than three yards per carry.
The biggest question mark the first few games of season and continue to be the FSU offense. There were people who were legitimately worried FSU could lose to the likes of Northern Ilinois and Wake Forest after the Syracuse loss.
However, after FSU football dismantled Wake Forest I posed the following question on Twitter and you can see the results.
Thoughts
As you can see fans have a different perspective of this team after watching them progress the last two weeks.
FSU has moved up 16 spots to No. 57 overall in the S&P advanced rankings. They are No. 109 offensively, No. 21 defensively and No. 95 in special teams.
Most FSU fans are not expecting the Noles to beat Clemson or Notre Dame. However, I think their expectations have changed regarding Boston College and NC State or maybe even Florida depending how they look in the coming weeks.
The ‘Noles are double digit underdogs for the second time this season when Clemson comes to town Saturday. It’ll be interesting to see how they perform against one of the best teams in the country.
