FSU Football: Taggart blames offensive line for offensive woes
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football is at a crossroads with its 30-7 loss against Syracuse on Saturday. The biggest issue seems to be the offensive line according to Coach Taggart.
The FSU offense was about as inept as one could see going up against a defense that had allowed an average of over six yards per play in its first two games.
The Noles averaged four yards per play with much of that production coming in garbage time. They also were 1-14 on third down and had 11 penalties for 90 yards.
The defense played lights out until they wore down in the second half. The FSU offense simply could not stay on the field long enough to give the defense enough time rest before having to go back on the field.
The offensive line has been given a lot of criticism in the first three games and Coach Willie Taggart believes they’re the main culprit holding the FSU offense back.
Thoughts
The Noles couldn’t get anything going and when they finally did it was often negated by penalties.
I do believe the offensive line is a major issue, but I don’t think Deondre Francois played well at all despite what Coach Taggart said in the interview.
In fact, I believe this game would have been a perfect opportunity to insert James Blackman into the game to see if he could give them a spark.
Francois missed reads in the run game and was inaccurate on the day going 18 of 36 for 178 yards. He also looked like he was not 100 percent with his leg and running in slow motion while being sacked four times and the FSU offense gave up seven tackles for loss.
It was a game FSU needed to win and should have won considering Syracuse played the entire second half with their back up quarterback.
The FSU defense was on 88 snaps and only allowed 5 yards per play for the entire game. They allowed just 3.82 yards in the first half on 45 offensive plays for Syracuse.
The offense has to find answers and quick or things could get even uglier against tougher competition.
