FSU football hasn’t brought home a conference championship since the 2014 season, but one website says it could take place by the end of this season.

In the 26 seasons in which the FSU football has taken the field as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Seminoles have ended the season as the champions of the league a total of 15 times – including nine straight seasons at the start of their membership and three straight in the middle part of this decade.

Of course, the 2014 title was the last time the Noles won the ACC as they have watched the Clemson Tigers win the last three seasons after being the Seminoles in the regular season. Entering the 2018 season, the men from South Carolina are seen as the favorites again as FSU football bounces back from a 7-6 season in 2017.

While there aren’t many people giving the Seminoles a chance to win the ACC, there are a few people willing to go out on that limb. One of them is College Football News, which listed its five sleeper teams to win a Power Five conference this season and had the Noles possibly bringing home title No. 16.

"The running back talent is among the best in the country, there are good quarterback options to choose from, the receiving corps is fine, and the O line – while it still needs work – gets back four starters. It’ll be Virginia Tech to open up the season, and while it has to go to Syracuse, Louisville, Miami and NC State, it’s good enough to win at least three of those.Beat Clemson at home, don’t lose more than one game in conference play, take back the ACC."

Now, nothing would give me more joy than to see FSU football in Charlotte during the first Saturday of December taking part in the ACC title game for the first time since the 2014 season – that being said, the pressure at this point is on Taggart to show improvement from last season with what is arguably the toughest schedule in college football.

That’s not to say that the Seminoles can’t win the ACC – heck, don’t forget that three of their losses last season (N.C. State, Miami and Louisville) were by a combined 13 points and the Noles were only down by three to Clemson late in the fourth quarter, so the talent is there to get it done.

That being said, I think most FSU football fans would consider the season a success with a 9-3 or 10-2 record and anything on top of that would just be icing on the cake.
