FSU football is starting off the preseason ranked as one of the top 20 teams in the country, but one writer thinks that’s not good enough for the Noles.

When the first official rankings for the 2018 season came out on Thursday, the FSU football team enjoyed having something beside their name for the first time since their come from behind win over Wake Forest on September 30th of last year – a number signifying that they are back in the rankings.

For some, it was even more surprising that the Seminoles found themselves in the top 20 of the polls, sliding into the No. 19 spot and setting up another matchup of ranked teams to start the season when they host No. 17 Virginia Tech on Labor Day inside Doak Campbell Stadium.

After what took place last season, there is some hesitation about what FSU football will do in 2018 – can they bounce back and battle in the ACC or will the first season under head coach Willie Taggart be another rough one if you root for the garnet and gold?

After the initial rankings were released, one writer has spoken and actually believes the Seminoles are among the most underrated teams based on their spot in the first poll. Tom Fornelli from CBSSports.com lists the Noles in the top five team with that classification.

"I get the feeling that this ranking is a reaction to last season, and I understand it, but last season wasn’t a typical season…No matter the coaching situation, Florida State is a team that should be better in 2018, and while it’s not going to finish ahead of Clemson, it’s still going to be one of the better teams in the ACC."

Fornelli, as you can read more by clicking on the link above, is saying what almost every FSU football fan has been uttering for the last nine months: what took place last season was not indicative of how the Seminoles are as a team – it was a combination of a bad injury in the opener and a coach who seemed to mail it in by the end.

The Noles have their work cut out with a schedule that features four teams ranked in the top 17 to start the season – but all it takes is a couple of those to be wins and FSU football can be knocking on the door of the top 10 in no time.
