FSU Football: Stat shows why Noles are best team in Florida last five seasons
By Jason Parker
FSU football has been running the Sunshine State for much of the last decade, and one single stat just proves why it isn’t even a question.
Since the 2013 season kicked off – and for a couple years before it, there is very little question that the best college football played in the state of Florida has been in Tallahassee with the FSU football team. From the state’s only legit national title and Power Five conference crown, the Seminoles are doing things big.
Now, one single stat shows that when it comes to what program is the one that everyone else is looking up to, it’s the Noles far and above everyone else in the state – including those two other “power” programs in the Sunshine State.
This week, College Football News published their list ranking the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision teams based on who had the most quality wins – listed as wins over other FBS teams with winning records. Not only was FSU football the only in-state team in the top 10, coming in tied at No. 6, they were the only one in the top 25.
"No. 6 (TIE) – FLORIDA STATE (49 wins)No. 28 (TIE) – Florida (39)No. 32 (TIE) – Miami and UCF (32)No. 58 (TIE) – USF (31)No. 83 (TIE) – Florida Atlantic (24)No. 102 (TIE) – FIU (19)"
It’s not just the fact that FSU football has the most wins over FBS teams they have faced in the state during the last five years – it’s the fact that the other teams in the state aren’t even close to reaching the Seminoles.
Another scary part of this is that the number could be higher for the Seminoles as six of the losses by FSU football over that five year span were by six points or less – which would further have the Noles running away with the title since the 2013 season.
Yes, what took place last year was a disappointment and the first two seasons of this study were the best for the Seminoles, but looking at everything as a whole shows that things are just fine in Tallahassee – and the Noles still run the Sunshine State in a competition that isn’t even close.
