Derwin James, who was taken in the first round this past April by the Los Angeles Chargers, reportedly had his jewelry stolen in his new home town.

It was just under three months ago that everything was going right for former FSU football star Derwin James – after being picked 17th overall in the first round of this past year’s NFL Draft, James has been getting heaped with praise for his skill and work ethic heading into his rookie season.

Apparently, James is also getting used to what life in the big city can be like if you aren’t careful – reportedly becoming the vicim of a armed robbery after eating at a restaurant in the town he will be starting his professional career in come this September.

TMZ Sports reported exclusively on Monday afternoon that Derwin James was held up at gun point after eating at an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles last month, according to a police report, along with his uncle by two men who reportedly demanded his jewelry.

"According to the docs, one of the men snatched the chain off James’ neck … and they also took his Rolex. The thieves fled to a nearby car … and when Derwin tried to give chase in his Rolls-Royce, he discovered 3 of his tires had been slashed.Cops are still searching for the suspects."

First off, we’re all happy that both Derwin James and his uncle made it out of the situation unharmed – as cliche as it may sound, things can be replaced by human lives can’t. One has to wonder in a situation like this if James had been targeted by someone who knew he was going to be there.

I’m not victim shaming or anything, but that can be one of the dangers of social media these days. Derwin James is one of many young players who likes to document what they are doing a lot of the time – that is well within their right, but it also can set up moments like this where everyone knows where you are going, what you are wearing and so on.

Of course, that could not be the case here and it could have just been a random crime. Whatever the case is, here is hoping that those involved are captured soon and Derwin James is allowed to live problem free for as long as he playing in the professional game.
