FSU Recruiting: Noles lose out on top 2019 receiver to Penn State
By Jason Parker
FSU thought they were going to be able to get one of South Florida’s top players, but a shocking decision was made by John Dunmore on Wednesday.
As the nation celebrated Independence Day on Wednesday, it was decision day for one of the top wide receiver recruits in the entire state of Florida that the FSU football team really wanted to commit to the Seminoles.
Unfortunately, the announcement felt like a firework that turned into a dud when that player surprised almost everyone and decided to not only pick someone other than the Noles, but a school that not many people saw as having a chance.
John Dunmore, a four star recruit from just outside of Fort Lauderdale, announced that his choice was not FSU football – but instead, the former Florida Gators commit is heading to the Big Ten and will be playing college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Dunmore had made an unofficial vist to the FSU football team on March 31st and had spoken highly of the Seminoles ever since – leaving many to think that he would eventually give a verbal commitment to the Noles as 247 Sports predicted was a 70 percent chance of happening as late as June 1st.
However, a moth later that was down to just 11 percent as the Nittany Lions took over the top spot. The main reason was likely that Penn State used new running back Ja’Juan Seider to recruit the South Florida product – the same assistant coach who got Dunmore to commit to the Gators initially.
Dunmore is ranked as the No. 15 overall prospect in the Sunshine State and recently took part in The Opening last weekend with four FSU football commitments.
Next: Can FSU really land top 2019 recruit Kayvon Thibodeaux?
The Seminoles class is still doing pretty well, currently ranked as the No. 10 class overall by 247 Sports with 13 commitments, including one from four star wide receiver Maurice Goolsby from Dunnellon, Florida.
