Fans react to Derwin James Los Angeles Chargers contract signing
By Kelvin Hunt
Some FSU fans criticized Derwin James for skipping the bowl game last year, but this is a prime example of it being worth it.
Former FSU All-American safety Derwin James is the latest Nole defensive back to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft to become a multi-millionaire.
James was selected No. 17 overall by the Chargers which was lower than anticipated.
The slide likely cost James 3-4 million dollars as Minkah Fitzpatrick signed a deal worth 16.4 million after being selected No. 11 overall by the Miami Dolphins.
It was announced Friday that James had officially signed with the Chargers:

Had to get Derwin’s reaction first!
Yep, I thought they’d take him too.
Quite possibly.
This is true and they were smart to take him.
Yup!
HA! Chargers fans are serious folk!
Thoughts
It’s not the contract some people thought James would sign since a lot of them felt he’d be selected in the top 12 picks.
However, it’s life changing money nonetheless and certainly worth skipping FSU’s bowl game they didn’t need him playing in to win anyways. If it were a college football playoff game, I’d almost bet money Derwin James would have been suited up for what it’s worth.
The kid bleeds FSU and has a ‘Noles tatoo on his body for crying out loud. What’s going to be fun is seeing the second NFL contract Derwin James signs in the next 3-4 years barring injury.
If he plays up to his abilities, he could sign a deal like Eric Berry of the Kansas City Chiefs who many pundits compare him to.
Berry signed six-year 78 million dollar deal with a 20 million dollar signing bonus and 40 million dollars guaranteed.
The Chargers run a defense that should allow James to show what he can do in coverage and against the run.
