FSU Football: Miami alum fires shot at Noles ahead of 2018 game
By Jason Parker
FSU football will bring enough fans to actually fill Miami’s rented stadium this season – but one supporter of the Canes has something to say about things.
It’s become something that is annoying to many of us in the FSU football nation: the fact that fans of the Miami Hurricanes have this crazy notion that they are actually back to being relevant. Their first 10 win season since 2003 and their first division title in their whole time of being an ACC member seems to have gone to their heads.
It was even worse considering the fact that beat the Seminoles for the first time this decade on a touchdown with just seconds to go – making things even more laughable since their best team in a decade a half nearly lost to arguably one of the worst FSU football teams over the same span.
This season, the Seminoles will get a chance to continue their win streak over the Hurricanes in South Florida – a place Miami hasn’t beaten the Noles since 2004 – and bring our fans with us to actually fill up Hard Rock Stadium…you know, the home of a professional team that the Canes rent six or seven times a season to play their games.
Last season, Miami got close to selling out their rented field for a few games – even one against Notre Dame that got ESPN’s College GameDay to come to campus (a campus 27 miles from the actual stadium where Miami plays).
This season, the show could come back to town for the game between FSU football and the Hurricanes – that’s according to one of the show’s regulars, Chris Fallica. You know, the weird guy who is basically Kirk Herbstreit’s do boy that they bring on once in a while.
Fallica is a graduate of UM and did a radio show recently in the city – where he took a shot at FSU football when talking about the possibilities of the show heading to South Florida for the game (h/t Miami Herald).
"“I’m very, very hopeful we can duplicate that again on Oct. 6. That would be Florida State, absolutely,” Fallica told (WQAM host Joe) Zagacki. “As long as Florida State doesn’t start off poorly.”"
“As long as Florida State doesn’t start off poorly?” Hmm, interesting – this from a person whose school has to start off the year against LSU and play a North Carolina team that they beat by just five points in a year the Tar Heels went 3-9 as part of a season where the Hurricanes won four games by a combined 18 points against teams that were a combined 19-29.
FSU football knows they have a tough opener against Virginia Tech – but if the Seminoles can get past the Hokies, the road becomes easier to be undefeated heading into the October 6th game considering the toughest opponent left (Louisville) is now without their best player.
Next: Can FSU get multiple home College GameDay appearances?
Tell you what, Chris – be more worried about the Hurricanes being able to win their opener. We’re just fine in Tallahassee and we’ll do our part to make the rivalry relevant again – we’ve been holding up our end for most of the decade, so it’s not new to us.
