FSU football has a whole stable of running backs – but the elder statesman of the group is the one that is getting slept on when it comes to the NFL.

Shortly after the spring session for FSU football came to an end with the garnet and gold game, new head coach Willie Taggart made it very clear that he has no problem playing multiple running backs at the same time – meaning you will be seeing a lot of Cam Akers and Khalan Labron, two of the backs who shined in the spring game, to terrorize defenses.

Of course, there is the original five star running back that is still a member of the Seminoles roster – a man by the name of Jacques Patrick. During the 2017 season, the former top prospect had more total rushing yards – 687 – than he did in his firs two seasons in Tallahassee combined. While he will be in a battle for the starting spot, Patrick will see the field often in 2018.

According to one college football expert, he could also be seeing the field often come the 2019 NFL season.

CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee recently ranked his top players who are on the underrated side for the 2019 pro football draft – and the big FSU football running back who wore a No. 9 jersey and may again is considered one of those players.

"Patrick’s 5.57 yards per carry was actually higher than Akers (5.28). Plus, the 6-foot-3, 234-pounder has measurables that will “wow” scouts, and he’ll have a little bit more tread on his tires than normal senior running backs do thanks to Akers’ presence on the roster.Throw in the high-octane, spread, power-rushing attack under new coach Willie Taggart, and Patrick will make himself very desirable."

I’ve said it all along that Patrick looks like another former big FSU football running back, a man named Greg Jones who turned his skills into a decent career as a fullback in the pro game. The jury is still out on if Jacques can get that far, but there is no reason to think it can’t take place.

First, he must get through the 2018 season for the Seminoles – and as much as players like Akers, Labron, Amir Rasul and others will do, the Noles are going to need another solid year from Patrick if they are going to do anything this season.
