FSU Football: Which undrafted free agent will have best success in NFL?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has a number of players to sign as undrafted free agents once the NFL Draft concluded. Which will find their niche to find the most success?
FSU football always has players selected in the NFL Draft every year and always has a host of players to sign as undrafted free agents.
There were about five former Noles to go undrafted and sign with teams last year. This year saw more players drafted and more players signed as undrafted free agents.
The entire list thus far is below:
- Tarvarus McFadden-San Francisco 49’ers
- Matthew Thomas-Pittsburgh Steelers
- Jalen Wilkerson-Houston Texans
- Trey Marshall-Denver Broncos
- Jacob Pugh-Seattle Seahawks
- Ryan Green-NY Jets
- Ermon Lane-New Orleans Saints
- Jared Jackson-LA Rams
Thoughts
Now, only one player signed as a UDFA last year saw any playing time and that was former wide receiver Travis Rudolph.
The question is which of these players will go on to have the most success in the NFL? Sometimes it’s not all about talent.
It could be about team depth and fit and sometimes injuries open up opportunities for players. McFadden and Thomas were probably the top two listed that most thought would have gotten drafted.
Defensive back and linebacker are two positions that often see obscure players find a role with teams. That means Trey Marshall and Jacob Pugh could be viable candidates too.
I’m rooting for all these guys, but I’m especially rooting for Ryan Green who’s arguably the most talented player listed in this group.
However, if I had to pick one player from this group who I’d say would have the best shot at having the most success? I’d have to say Jacob Pugh.
He could have success similar to what former Nole linebacker Christian Jones has experienced with the Chicago Bears.
I think Pugh has signed with a team that’s looking to redefine its defensive identity with the loss of several players from he “Legion of Boom” no longer there.

He has the talent to play and the fact he was the FSU spring MVP in 2017 let’s me know he was fully bought in even though the program may have been on shaky grounds at that time.
Who do you think shines if given the opportunity?
