FSU football is still thought to be one of the top teams in the running for Trey Sanders – but it looks like it might be an uphill battle.

Within days of the FSU football team concluding spring practice with the annual spring game, head coach Willie Taggart and his assistants were back out on the recruiting trail – from South Florida to North Georgia and all points in between – continuing their work on the 2019 signing class now that they are going to have a full cycle to work with.

One of the many targets that the Seminoles are going to set their sights on is running back Trey Sanders. The five star recruit is getting ready for his senior season with IMG Academy down in Bradenton, where he transferred from after playing in his North Florida hometown of Port St. Joe.

While FSU football has always been considered one of the schools that Sanders has kept in his favorites, it appears that the Seminoles will have some serious competition if they want him to return to the Florida panhandle.

Recently, after being in Alabama for their annual spring game, Sanders said that the Crimson Tide are his leader via SEC County despite de-committing from them late last year:

"“I talked to them and they still said that they’re going to recruit me,” Sanders said. “As of now, they’re my top team. It’s not like they really went down at all. There’s still a chance I might be going there.“I just told them that it was a family decision. It was also a business decision. You only get to be a high school recruit one time. I might as well go ahead and enjoy it.”"

At the same time, 247 Sports has the Seminoles coming in as the team with the second highest chance of landing him at 29 percent. The top team? The rival Florida Gators at 50 percent – the same school who signed his brother as a preferred walk on and where Sanders spent April 14th for the Gators’ spring game instead of coming to Tallahassee.

FSU football is going to do their best to land another great running back who will join a rotation that would include Cam Akers as a true junior, Khalan Laborn as a redshirt sophomore and looking to replace a graduating Jacques Patrick. Whether that will happened remains to be seen, but the Seminoles are going to go down swinging even if they can land the top back.
