FSU Football: Miami fans salty Noles landed hometown commitment
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football goes into Miami’s backyard and steals a hometown recruit.
This week marks almost a year to the day the Miami Hurricanes missed out on a commitment from blue chip player in their backyard.
Four-star defensive back Asante Samuel Jr. spurned the Canes in favor of the Noles on April 13, 2017.
On Saturday, four-star offensive lineman Dontae Lucas announced his commitment to the Noles over Miami and a host of other schools.
Lucas attends IMG Academy in Bradenton but is originally from Miami, Florida. FSU was thought to be a strong contender for Lucas as he was often tweeting positive things about the Noles.

However, he knew how to play the social media game too which gave some Miami fans hope they could keep him home. It appears some Miami fans were in the know, but a lot of them were delusional which is common for most Canes fans nowadays.
So of course we had to visit a Canes forum to check the temperature of how they’re feeling after losing another battle against FSU.
Cane Reaction
"Tf brah"
"WelpThis has been obvious for monthsGood. Better to know now than get punked on NSD. Next man up just like at QB, WR and now OL better to know now vs later. Those who evaluate the OL didn’t seem sold on Lucas vs a guy like Neal (and we need OT vs OG)."
"This kid is simply a massive human being with questionable mental state and lots of tech issues to clean up.Not even mad on this one."
"Telly coached his brother way back and was also there for Dontae and his fam when his father died. That’s not a relationship you can beat. Wish him the best except for once a year when we play the Noles."
"I wanted this kids mean streak on the line but as long as we land our OT targets this year i’m good."
"This is great news!!!! Lucas is the most over rated recruit in the state. Big slow and unathletic."
"While its a bad look have two local highly rated recruits commit some where else in the sameday F them. We are coming, congrats yall just made a conscious decision to get steamrolled by your hometown team. Miami against the world and thats all we ever needed."
"good. Now the staff can focus their attention elsewhere. Honestly, I hope they completely stop communication with this attention wh***."
"Yep. Been on record for a while as not caring for Lucas’ game. Not a loss (imo)."
"Yeah it’s a loss but its not a major loss if we get Putnam. He’s a tough hard nosed interior OL who is far better than Lucas. We need Neal and Tarquin for OT."
Thoughts
These comments are almost identical to the comments from when Samuel committed to the Noles.
It’s amazing considering the kid is a top 150 composite player in the entire nation, but yet they want to act like he’s not any good.
A few of the posters were correct in that Telly Lockette’s relationship was the key to this recruitment for the most part.
Let’s see, FSU got Asante Samuel Jr. and took two defensive tackles from the Canes in the 2018 recruiting cycle when JaMarcus Chatman and Dennis Briggs Jr. choose the Noles.
Now the Canes have lost another big time commitment to the Noles in the 2019 cycle. I thought Canes fans said Willie Taggart and company couldn’t recruit?
Remember when Miami has the No. 1 overall class in the 2019 recruiting cycle with a bunch of three star recruits? FSU has surpassed them with the No. 2 class with Miami checking in at No. 6.

The Canes have 20 percent of their 10 commitments listed as blue chip players. The Noles are running at a 78 percent blue chip clip.
Have fun with that boys!
