Willie Taggart wants to see better execution in the upcoming Saturday scrimmage.

FSU head coach Willie Taggart spoke with the media Friday morning as the Noles prepare for their upcoming Saturday scrimmage.

Taggart got all the usual questions about how things are going and what he’s looking for in the upcoming scrimmage.

The biggest thing he’s looking for is better execution and cleaning up some of the sloppiness that accompanies trying to learn a much quicker tempo coupled with new terminology.

The entire interview can be seen below courtesy of the Tallahassee Democrat and I won’t bore you with some of the repetitive questions.

However, what I really want to get into is the quarterback competition. Willie Taggart said all the QB’s are competing but the most separation could come over/during summer workouts.

Thoughts on QB

I was one of the first to put it out there and now others are finally starting to see the light. Three months ago I wrote James Blackman will be Willie Taggart’s QB in 2018 and I feel even more confident today than I did then.

Here’s the thing, Deondre Francois will continue to miss valuable reps during spring camp which is going to continue to put distance between he and James Blackman.

The only thing saving Francois from

Bailey Hockman

right now is Francois playing experience. That would be huge should Francois get healthy and is listed at the No. 2 QB.

James Blackman has experience and has the higher ceiling when compared to Hockman. I also believe Blackman has the edge when it comes to who FSU football players believe is the best QB to lead this team.

The summer workouts are going to be crucial in this QB battle as Taggart mentioned. Which QB’s are willing to put in the work to get better when nobody is watching?

History usually repeats itself.

If I had to put money on it, I’d bet James Blackman will put in the work to secure the job provided he stays healthy, etc. He’s doesn’t seem to have a lot of people around to distract him.

Blackman has the work ethic, playing experience and ultimately is the most talented QB of the three.
