FSU basketball got sweet revenge for its blowout loss against Xavier last year.

FSU basketball had a lot of doubters going into the game against No. 1 seed Xavier Sunday night.

The Noles finished the regular season poorly, but played well in their tournament opener against Missouri.

FSU fans have seen this story before though with FSU playing well then laying an egg the next game.

Not to mention the game was against a team that blew a more talented FSU team out the water a year ago to the day.

We reported the Noles opened as four point underdogs against Xavier which was telling, but only real gamblers were giving FSU a shot to cover much less win the game.

However, some timely forced turnovers and scrappy defense coupled with one of their best games of free throw shooting all season helped FSU gain sweet revenge for last years loss.

FSU fans were on life support for much of the game as the Noles had to stave off multiple runs by the Musketeers. However, all their pride was on display after the huge victory.

Thoughts

I can’t front, when the Noles went down 12 with under 10 minutes to go my confidence started to wane because we’ve seen it too many times. However, I’m so impressed by the way the guys grinded and found a way to keep it close each time Xavier made a run.

In fact.

The free throw shooting at 19 of 22 was amazing as well as forcing 18 turnovers with 10 steals. FSU did their best offensive work in the transition game as Xavier stifled much of their half court game.
