FSU football is pulling out all the old school stops for the spring game – and one former supporter of a hated rival is joining in on the fun.

In just over a month, fans of FSU football are going to be heading to Doak Campbell Stadium for the annual garnet and gold football game to conclude spring practice – and they are going to be doing three things after the game: stopping, collaborating and listening.

Okay, I had to do that as I am a child of the late 80s and 90s like a decent amount of the people who will be in attendance on April 14th for what is turning into maybe the biggest throwback event in the history of the football program. Head coach Willie Taggart has made it clear that while moving the team forward, he is going to embrace the past.

It’s already been announced that the field will be painted with the white end zones that Doak rocked when FSU won national championships in 1993 and 1999 (and don’t be surprised to see players wear throwback uniforms in the process.)

After the game, the Seminoles have gotten national attention for a postgame concert featuring Salt N Pepa, Rob Base and maybe the most ironic of them all, Vanilla Ice. Yes, the same Rob Van Winkle who ripped his adopted hometown’s Miami Hurricanes all through his career will be in the garnet and gold.

If you want to see the rare sight, FSU football put a video featuring Ice on Twitter earlier this week promoting the game:

Look, we can all be honest with each other on this one: Ice, along with the other throwback musicians, are coming to the game for a quick payday and another 15 minutes of fame. He’s not turning over to being an FSU football fan, so we don’t have to worry about that one.

The throwback theme has gotten plenty of press over the last few weeks for a variety of reasons, but FSU football has brought the attention back to the program for something that doesn’t have to do with a player being in trouble or a coach abandoning the team – so grab your throwback gear and meet us at Doak on the 14th.
