FSU football has always had one of the most iconic looks in college football over the last four decades – but one site didn’t give it proper credit.

Every season since Bobby Bowden took over as the head coach of FSU football in 1976, the Seminoles have taken the field wearing the iconic look of the gold helmet, garnet facemask and the garnet and white spears on the side. It’s a look that lets people know that the Noles are taking the field and people need to get out of the way.

With the exception of a handful of games over that 42 season span, the Seminoles have worn that helmet and it has been praised as one of the best in all of college football. Even with the change in 2014 to a sleeker spear that went with the latest uniform change, the iconic look is still pretty much the same.

During a recent ranking by College Spun of the top 10 helmets in college football, the site gave plenty of love when they talked about the helmet:

"The Seminoles have gone through a bit of a change with their helmets’ look in recent seasons, but the gold helmet with the garnet logo and arrow stickers is one of the best in the sport."

That’s nice and all – but it came after the rankings put FSU football’s lids at No. 6 nationally. SIXTH….THEY PUT THE SEMINOLES AT SIXTH?!?!?!?! Can you believe such a joke? The best helmet in all of college football got ranked sixth overall?

The five helmets that ranked ahead of them, from five to one, rank as follows: The Tennessee Volunteers, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the LSU Tigers, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Michigan Wolverines. While all of those are iconic lids, there is no way any of them are better than what we have in Tallahassee.

When FSU football takes the field for the 2018 season opener against the Virginia Tech Hokies, the lights will be shining bright on a group of gold helmets with garnet and white spears – and fans across the country will know that the Seminoles are there and ready for battle.
