FSU basketball loss to Wake Forest definition of embarrassing

FSU basketball dropped their worst loss of the season on fans earlier this week – and it couldn’t have come at a worst time with the upcoming slate.

Every year, there are three things that are a certainty: death, taxes and the FSU basketball team will drop a game that will have fans scratching their heads wondering what the heck took place. Even during last year’s NCAA tournament run, the Seminoles had a loss to a bad Georgia Tech team on their slate that was beyond an embarrassment.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you this year’s game in a four point loss to Wake Forest that took place on Wednesday.

It isn’t because they lost the game – but it’s because of who they lost to and how it happened. At least last year against the Yellow Jackets, the Seminoles weren’t in the game at all and could pretty much chalk it up to just getting beat down from jump street.

Against the Demon Deacons, FSU basketball not only had a six point lead at the half – but still at the lead with just over a MINUTE TO GO IN THE DARN GAME! Sorry if I was yelling there, but the fact is that the Seminoles blew a second half lead to a team that had lost their last seven straight games.

This was a Wake Forest team who lost their first three games of the season to powerhouses like Georgia Southern, Liberty and Drake. Now, they have a win over the Noles while Florida State is stuck wondering why they can’t do anything from the three point line (shooting under 29 percent in the game) and why they can almost only have one person shoot well in a game.

Now, FSU basketball heads into a four game stretch where they face a Louisville team on the road who beat them once this season, the No. 2 Virginia Cavaliers, Notre Dame on the road and a ranked Clemson team at home – all in a matter of less than two weeks. If that doesn’t frighten you, nothing will.

Next: Evaluating remaining ACC schedule for Seminoles

I’m not saying the Seminoles can’t finish on a high note – heck, if they split their remaining regular season games, it’s another 20 win season for the Noles. However, based on what has taken place in the past, you can’t blame those in garnet and gold for worrying after seeing what took place this  past Wednesday.
