FSU football will play three home games on the same date as cross town school FAMU plays at home – creating a traffic and logistical nightmare.

Earlier this month, FSU football fans got their hotel rooms and travel plans ready with the revealing of the 2018 schedule for the season – including three home games in the first four weeks along with back to back home games to finish the months of October and November.

About a week later, the Florida A&M Rattlers unveiled their schedule for the upcoming season when it came to conference games – with the men from south of Gaines Street spending the same weekends in Tallahassee as the men from the north side three times already during the 2018 campaign.

Tallahassee is not the only city with two college programs in it by a long shot – cities like Miami, Atlanta, Norfolk and Dallas are just a few that come to mind – but it’s one of the few cities (and possibly the only city) where the schools and subsequent football stadiums are literally across the street from each other.

So, that’s why seeing that the Rattlers and Seminoles will be playing in the city at the same time during at least three Saturday’s this season (September 22nd, October 20th and 27th – which are FSU’s homecoming and the Clemson game respectively) is going to create a logistical nightmare for people trying to travel and spend the night following the game.

The last two seasons, the schools have only played at home the same weekend just once each year – after another three date double feature during the 2015 season that included FAMU playing in Tallahassee the same time FSU football was playing the rival Miami Hurricanes.

I am not saying that one school has to cater to the other by any stretch of the imagination – but there has to be some communication between both schools as well as the ACC and the MEAC to avoid having multiple weekends where this takes place.

Tallahassee is the capital of the state, but it is still a smaller city when you get right down to it – and FSU football having their homecoming weekend and their biggest home game of the year at the same time as fans will be traveling for the Rattlers creates a headache for fans of both teams who want to support their programs.
