FSU basketball avenged a prior loss to Miami Saturday with an overtime win in the Tuck.

FSU basketball (16-5, 5-4 ACC) used hot shooting from a variety of players to avenge a prior defeat against Miami Saturday afternoon in front of a great home crowd.

The ‘Noles have won three consecutive which puts them in good shape to make the NCAA Tournament if they win the remaining games they’ll be favored to win.

Three Takeways

  • When FSU gets hot they can score with anyone

The ‘Noles have been on fire the last three games. When I say on fire I mean ON FIRE. They have shot 53.4 percent, 59.3 percent and 60 percent in those games and have averaged 87.3 points (in regulation). FSU basketball has shot it well from three-point land too. They’ve hit on 23 of 52 which is 44.2 percent.

  • FSU’s defense needs to tighten up

The ‘Noles have shot it well, but their defense hasn’t been very good the past few games. FSU basketball has allowed their past three opponents to shoot on average 48.2 percent. That’s not going to cut it against the upper tier teams in the ACC. The ‘Noles are too good athletically and has too much length to allow teams to shoot it that well.

  • FSU has good shot of getting decent seed in NCAA Tournament

FSU has nine regular season games left and is currently (5-4) in ACC play. They should be favored in four or five of the games they have left. There’s a decent shot for FSU basketball to finish with double-digit wins in the toughest conference in the nation. If they do that they’ll get into the NCAA Tournament for sure.

Thoughts

There are no gimme wins in the ACC, but the ‘Noles are setting themselves up nicely for the ACC Tournament. They have four games remaining with teams who are under .500 in ACC play.

If they win those games and take a win from NC State, Clemson, Louisville or Virginia they’ll get to 10 wins and a decent seed in the NCAA Tournament.

If fans were told that prior to the season beginning, I think we’d all be happy considering the talent that left for the NBA last year.
