FSU Football has been consistently in the AP poll over the last three decades – and one site crunched the numbers to show how they are the best in the state.

For much of the last 30 years of college football, it has been a constant to see the FSU football team ranked almost every single week and almost always at the end of the season. Since the 1987 season, the Seminoles have finished the year unranked a total of four times out of the 31 seasons (including this past season) and were ranked for 22 straight seasons from 1984 to 2005.

It’s that kind of consistency that has plenty of people arguing that the Noles might be the best program in college football over the last three decades – and one website used a formula with the final AP polls to show why the Seminoles are defiantly the best in the Sunshine State.

College Football News took the final rankings from each season and gave teams points (25 points for No.1, 24 for No.2, etc.) to show the greatest programs based on the poll. While it’s a close race, FSU football comes out on top among the big three:

"No. 14 – FLORIDA STATE (563 total points)No. 15 – Miami (530)No. 17 – Florida (499)"

When you break it down by decades, the Seminoles also have had plenty of success and been the top team for a majority of the time since Bobby Bowden took over before the 1976 season – with neither the Canes or Gators showing up this decade:

"2010’sNo. 5 – FLORIDA STATE (104 Points)No. 22 – UCF (41)2000’sNo. 5 – Florida (141 Points)No. 8 – Miami (125)No. 16 – FLORIDA STATE (71)1990’sNo. 1 – FLORIDA STATE (231 Points)No. 2 – Florida (194)No. 7 – Miami (137)1980’sNo. 2 – Miami (174 Points)No. 7 – FLORIDA STATE (124)No. 22 – Florida (64)"

With all the struggles this season and what was a rocky year for FSU football, it might sometimes slip a garnet and gold mind that this is a Seminoles team who has been maybe the most consistent program in the whole sport over the past three decades.

Considering the fact that Florida State is the only college football team to win an AP national championship that started their program after World War II, it’s amazing to see what the Seminoles have done to make themselves one of the name programs in the sport in a short period of time.
