FSU football took home an Independence Bowl title led by interim head coach Odell Haggins, who got praised by one website for the showing.

It was a wild final month of the season for FSU football, who saw the Seminoles lose their head coach before the final regular season game – a rescheduled game that the Noles needed to win just to become bowl eligible. Nonetheless, the Seminoles rallied and looked like a new team in defeating Louisiana Monroe and later Southern Miss in the bowl game.

The leadership behind those two wins falls on interim head coach Odell Haggins, who has been a Florida State lifer after being an All-American player and spending the last 24 seasons as an assistant coach with the team. Haggins has been praised by those in garnet and gold, both from fans and those who have suited up for him.

Now, Haggins is getting praise from an outside source after the way things played out during the bowl season.

College Football News ranked all 78 head coaches who led a team during the bowl season-  and the leader of the Seminoles when they went to Shreveport and defeated the Golden Eagles came in No. 17 in the rankings:

"Terrific. Florida State didn’t have anything to play for, this was a disappointing season, and everything revolved around Willie Taggart taking over and Jimbo Fisher leaving. The team played really, really hard for Haggins."

When Haggins was named the interim head coach shortly after the former FSU football head coach abandoned the team, there was rejoicing over the former Seminole finally getting his chance to lead the team on the field as the true leader of the program. The way the Noles played in those two games shows the respect Odell received.

It was also a sign of respect (and intelligence) for Taggart to retain Haggins on his coaching staff for the 2018 season and hopefully well beyond. At this point, he will be one of the senior members of the assistants, but the respect he has from everyone around the program is proof Odell is #Noleblooded.
