A ESPN writer said the Miami Hurricanes could make a football playoff run in 2018.

When it comes to FSU football we work to give it to you straight up no chaser. If the team sucks, we call it like it is and if they team has a great performance we’ll praise them.

Basically, we do our homework before talking, but that’s not the case with a lot of national writers. Case in point, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg lists Miami as a team that could make a college football playoff run in 2018.

He does the usual of listing all the players he heard on a broadcast during a game or something, but Miami is still in rebuilding mode regardless if people want to believe it or not.

We give you the real on Miami’s situation and why a college playoff run isn’t likely at all.

"The 2018 defense could be celebrated for more than the Turnover Chain, as it currently features only two senior starters (end Chad Thomas and cornerback Dee Delaney). Even if tackles Kendrick Norton and RJ McIntosh enter the draft, Miami will bring back explosive players such as safety Jaquan Johnson, end Joe Jackson and linebackers Shaq Quarterman and Michael Pinckney. The quarterback situation is worth monitoring and must improve, but running back Travis Homer, who filled in well for Mark Walton, returns alongside talented wide receiver Ahmmon Richards. Miami will miss wideout Braxton Berrios and several linemen. The Canes open with LSU but get Florida State at home and will be heavy favorites to repeat as ACC Coastal champions."

Thoughts

Miami was extremely lucky in 2017 with turnovers fueling a lot of their success. Their season reminded me a lot of the Carolina Panthers in 2015 when they went to the Super Bowl.

That team was extremely lucky that season, and we saw what happened the following season when all those breaks didn’t go their way. The Panthers went from (15-1) to (6-10) in the span of a year.

Rittenberg does get it right about their QB situation. Either they’ll have Rosier or a redshirt freshman with no game experience going into the season.

Everyone harps about Miami’s defense, but it really wasn’t that great either as they depended on turnovers for a lot of their success. Miami was barely a top 25 defense (No. 23) in 2017, and that’s without facing  single top 25 offense all season.

Offensively, Miami was No. 36 in the country and was one of the worst three teams on third down conversions in the nation.

As Rittenberg stats, Miami opens with LSU and plays Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech on the road while hosting FSU. That could easily be four losses right there if Miami isn’t on their A game.
