FSU football recently finished their 41st straight season with a winning record – and the number is mind boggling when compared to other state programs.

When the final gun sounded last week at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana, the FSU football team had played in their 36th consecutive bowl game – tying a college football all-time record – while the 42-13 victory gave the Seminoles their 41st straight season that ended with a winning record, which is far and away the current leader among FBS teams.

In a season that, at one point, saw the Seminoles at 2-5 following an embarrassing loss to Boston College, finishing the season with a winning record and a bowl win is something that can be cheered about the entire offseason. It also continues the dominance of the Noles among the seven teams that play FBS football in the state of Florida.

Since 2004, the state of Florida has fielded that many teams had college football’s highest level – tying the state with California and North Carolina for third most behind Texas (12) and Ohio (8). But no matter what, the other half dozen teams don’t hold a candle to FSU football when it comes to winning consistency.

Over that 14 seasons span, the Seminoles are the only team in the state of Florida to have a winning season each year:

"No. 1 – Florida State (14 seasons)No. 2 – Miami and Florida (12 seasons)No. 3 – South Florida (9 seasons)No. 4 – Central Florida (8 seasons)No. 5 – Florida Atlantic (5 seasons)No. 6 – FIU (3 seasons)"

It gets even funnier when you compare the fact that the Seminoles currently are on that 41 season streak of winning campaigns – while the longest active streaks in the state after FSU football belong to Miami and South Florida…who are on a THREE SEASONS winning streak.

For historical purposes, the longest winning streak in major college football history belongs to Penn State after they went 49 seasons without a losing campaign before suffering one in the 1988 season. You would have to think that, baring a major collapse under new head coach Willie Taggart, reaching that number for FSU football is legit within reach.
