FSU football could have a former player hear his name called early on in the 2018 NFL Draft – but it may be a few minutes later than originally thought.

In the coming months, much will be mentioned about who will be among the first names mentioned when the 2018 NFL Draft takes place in Arlington, Texas. Without a doubt, a name you will hear sooner rather than later will be that of former FSU football star safety, Derwin James – who left the program before the bowl game to prepare for the draft.

For much of the college football season, James saw his name being mentioned among the top 10 in the entire draft – at points even thought to be one of the top five names that will be called this coming April. While some still believe that, other mock drafts have begun to cool off on how high Derwin might go.

Recent mock drafts released in the last week have James ranging everywhere from No. 4 to No. 14:

"Walter Football – No. 10 to Cincinnati Bengals (now Oakland Raiders)Charlie Campbell – No. 4 to Cleveland Browns“The 6-foot-3, 211-pounder has a great athletic skill set with tremendous speed, instincts, and strength to hit. He shows the ability to do everything an NFL safety is needed to do.”Bleacher Report – No. 14 to Washington Redskins (now Green Bay Packers)Draft Tek – No. 10 to Oakland Raiders“He lined up at safety, corner, and even linebacker during his time at FSU. For a defense desperately in need of elite talent, James could prove too good to pass up.”FanSided – No. 14 to Washington Redskins (now Green Bay Packers)“James is not only one of the best safeties in the country, but he also has shown that he can be a lock-down cornerback.”"

Somehow, I find it hard to believe that there are in some cases over a dozen players who are better than this former FSU football star when it comes to pure talent. Derwin James is someone who can line up at multiple positions on the field and be a success – just look at this highlight video of his work.

Without a doubt, Derwin James is going to be waiting a very short time inside AT&T Stadium in a few months and will be a very rich man not long afterward. Mock drafts are no indication of what will take place, so he doesn’t need to worry what some people might say about where he will go.
