FSU football handled their business in the Independence Bowl on Wednesday – and it was the words pregame from a Seminole legend that embodied the future.

In the past four weeks, a new FSU football team seems to have been found. In two wins over Louisiana Monroe (to become bowl eligible) and in Wednesday’s bowl victory over Southern Miss (to give the Seminoles their 41st straight winning season), the garnet and gold seems to have found there swagger back and is back to having fun and getting results.

From the pride the players have in playing for interim head coach and FSU football lifer Odell Haggins to the anticipation that comes with the new era under Willie Taggart, it looks as if FSU football is back to being where they should be – and playing for the tradition that comes with being a member of the Seminole family.

Of course, Taggart and Haggins have made it very clear that before looking at the future, you must respect those who have built the program into one of the nation’s brand names. Such a moment of that took place before the Independence Bowl when Haggins had a guest speaker come in before kickoff – Hall of Famer and Seminole legend Deion Sanders.

“Prime Time” broke it down and kept it real with the current Seminoles – and this speech should give every FSU football fan goosebumps and the desire to strap on a helmet themselves:

That is what FSU football is all about – the pride and tradition of wearing the garnet and gold sticking with your forever. Deion Sanders hasn’t played a down for the Noles in almost three decades and I guarantee you he would do anything for the program now that there is some real leadership in the coaching position and not someone just riding the coattails of great players.

In recent days, rumors have floated around that Sanders could be taking a job on Taggart’s staff – possibly even as the defensive backs coach for the Seminoles. Whatever he does, whether it be coaching or some support position, FSU football can only benefit from the greats like ‘Prime Time’ back in the family.
