College Football Playoff projections after Week 13 games
By Jason Parker
The College Football Playoff committee will release their next two last rankings of the 2017 season on Tuesday – and here’s how we think it will look.
For the entire month of November, the eyes of the FSU football fans and the college football world have been focused on a few minutes each Tuesday night when the College Football Playoff committee releases their list of the top 25 teams in the sport – and, more importantly, who would be the top four teams that would make the playoff if it started that week.
Last week’s group saw Alabama on top with the ACC well represented at the No. 2 and 3 spots with Miami and Clemson and Oklahoma rounding out the group at that point. Well, if you were living under a rock this past weekend, you will know that that group will change thanks to upsets knocking both the Crimson Tide and Hurricanes from the ranks of the unbeatens.
When the committee announces their next to last rankings of the season – before announcing who the final four teams will be this coming Sunday – several questions remain: will Wisconsin get any love for finishing the season unbeaten? Will a two loss Auburn team jump unbeaten and one loss teams by virtue of beating Georgia and Bama when they were on top? Can UCF, at 11-0, crack the top 10?
Here’s a look at how the Chop Chat staff sees things playing out Tuesday night:
Jason’s Picks
- Wisconsin (12-0) – I’m sorry, but I will always give credit to the team who does their job…winning every game they play.
- Oklahoma (11-1) – A better overall resume when it comes to beating higher ranked teams.
- Clemson (11-1) – I’m not an ACC homer and I also don’t think South Carolina was one of the top 25 teams in college football last week.
- Georgia (11-1) – Playing for your conference championship will always gain more points with me.
First two out: No. 5 Miami (10-1) and No. 6 Auburn (10-2)
Kelvin’s Picks
- Clemson
- Oklahoma
- Wisconsin
- Auburn
First two out: No. 5 Alabama (11-1) and No. 6 Georgia
Final Thoughts
I know there are people out there who love the playoff system and all of the wonder that comes with it, but this season is going to be another example of why the whole thing is a joke. Though I did my rankings how I would put the top six teams, I know full well Alabama will either still be in the College Football Playoff’s top four or one of the first two teams out.

With that, even one upset in next weekend’s title games will send the Crimson Tide – a team who didn’t even win the SEC West this season – to the playoff with a chance to win the national title despite not being the best team in their own division. If that’s progress, then I don’t want a piece of it.
