FSU rival Florida has hired Dan Mullen as its head coach after missing on several targets. We have the fan reaction to the news.

Our FSU rival down in Gainesville finally decided to hire a coach if you haven’t heard by now. The Gators have turned to former Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen after getting spurned by several coaches although they are saying different.

The Florida program has been in disarray since Urban Meyer left after the 2010 season with “health issues” according to him.

The Gators have a 51-36 record between Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain and interim head coach Randy Shannon.

Jimbo Fisher has gone 7-1 against Florida in that same time span and consistently beaten them on the recruiting trails too.

We checked it to see the reaction of Mullen being hired by Florida on Twitter:

Thoughts

By all accounts this is the best possible hire for the Gators under the circumstances. Mullen is familiar with the program since he used to coach there and has shown the ability to win with lesser talent at Mississippi State.

The only problem is some folk view him as another version of Jim McElwain, good enough to win the weaker SEC East as his ceiling.

There’s no denying his work with some former QB’s though, and playing QB at Florida has been an ongoing joke since the Tim Tebow days.

The Florida offense has been beyond anemic, only scoring three offensive touchdowns against a Charles Kelly led FSU defense since 2014.

He’s got a lot of work to do but Mullen is the right guy to stabilize that program as it’s currently in free fall with current recruits jumping ship.
