The College Football Playoff rankings come out tonight and we are close to the final rankings of the year. Chop Chat is back again with our predictions.

Everybody in the top 10 all played cupcakes for the most part this past week. So not a lot of shake up is expected in the college football playoff rankings. With that said lets get to this weeks predictions – including several teams that FSU football fans know pretty well.

Zack’s picks:

  1. Alabama (11-0) – Until the Crimson Tide lose a game it seems the committee is determined to keep them as the top ranked team.
  2. Miami (10-0) – Right now I would have Alabama and Miami as 1A and 1B. Either team has a legitimate argument as the No. 1 team.
  3. Clemson (10-1) – Clemson is without a doubt the most battle tested team in the country but I would take Miami at a neutral sight as it stands.
  4. Oklahoma (10-1) – The Sooners defense is a huge weakness however the explosive offense keeps impressing led by Heisman front runner Baker Mayfield.

First two left out: No. 5 Wisconsin (11-0) and No. 6 Auburn (9-2)

Kelvin’s picks:

  1. Alabama-Beat up a cupcake
  2. Miami-Had to scratch and claw to beat a bowl eligible Virginia team. I was impressed they came back from two touchdown deficits TWICE to win by double digits.
  3. Oklahoma-Beat a one win Kansas team
  4. Clemson-Beat a cupcake

First two left out: No. 5 Wisconsin and No. 6 Auburn….I have Clemson over Wisky because Clemson’s SOS is much better.

Jason’s picks:

  1. Alabama – Of the three Power Five unbeatens, they by far have the best resume at this point.
  2. Wisconsin – Let us not forget they have done something teams like Clemson and Ohio State haven’t…won every game they played, including last week over Michigan.
  3. Miami – Once again, the Canes were challenged and had to fight their way back. Clemson needs to watch out.
  4. Oklahoma – Still the best record of the one loss teams, so they get a trip to the fun of the final four as of this week.

First two left out: No. 5 Clemson and No. 6 Georgia – I will not put a two loss team in the playoff.

Thoughts:

The last week of the regular season will shape up the playoff picture a little bit more for the fans and the committee. There is some big football games to be played this week that will determine the fate of some teams in the hunt.

  • No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 6 Auburn
  • No. 3 Miami vs. Pitt
  • No. 7 Georgia vs. Georgia Tech
  • No. 9 Ohio State vs. No. 24 Michigan
  • No. 5 Wisconsin vs. Minnesota
  • West Virginia vs. No. 4 Oklahoma
  • No. 2 Clemson vs. South Carolina

Every game listed above has college football playoff implications. Those listed above ranked inside the top 10 cannot afford to lose a game if they wish to be apart of the playoff conversation heading into championship weekend.

The Iron Bowl will surely have the most attention and for good reason. Both teams in that game between Alabama and Auburn are both very much in the playoff race. The winner of that game will earn a ticket to Atlanta for the SEC championship where they will face No. 7 Georgia.

The committee’s rankings will be released live at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. As always give us your feedback and lets us know at Chop Chat your thoughts on our predictions as well as the committees rankings.
