FSU football will play 12 regular season games after all following the announcement Tuesday that their game with Louisiana Monroe will be played.

Just one week into the college football season, the landscape for FSU football changed with the announcement that the game against Louisiana Monroe scheduled for September 9th would not be played – as Hurricane Irma churned toward the state of Florida and a football game become less and less important.

Over the course of this season, that game did become more and more important considering the once playoff contending Seminoles limped into the month of November with a 2-5 record and the serious chance that their bowl and winning seasons streaks could be flying out the door.

A win this past Saturday gave FSU football their third win of the season – and with a game looming next week against No. 4 Clemson, the Seminoles might have six losses heading into the final two games of the season (both winnable against FCS foe Delaware State and slumping Florida).

All of a sudden, the game against the Warhawks seemed like something that could possibly get the Seminoles to a 6-6 finish and a trip to the postseason. Alas, that thought became a reality today when Florida State officials announced the game will be played after all, taking place December 2nd at noon inside Doak Campbell Stadium.

"“I appreciate the efforts of our administration as well as the administration and Coach Viator at ULM to get this game rescheduled,” head coach Jimbo Fisher said. “It was unfortunate for both teams that we were not able to play this game in September, and both teams deserve the chance to play their 12th game of the season."

The time of the game was expected it to be an early kickoff considering that is championship weekend in college football, and a game between two possible 5-6 teams won’t exactly be bidding for any prime time slots.

This game will also be significant for a historical reason as it will be the first time since the 2001 season that FSU football will not end the year with their traditional rivalry game against the Gators. That season, the Seminoles faced Georgia Tech on December 1st in a game that was moved after the tragic events of September 11th.
