FSU football could still play their cancelled game against Louisiana Monroe, so we weight the good and the bad of playing such a game.

In the coming days, FSU football fans could know whether or not they will have an extra game to watch come December 2nd of this year. No, it’s not going to be a trip to the ACC Championship (that ship sailed away a while ago) but instead could be a game that was supposed to be played months ago before Mother Nature got involved.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Seminoles are expected to make a decision by next week if the game against Louisiana Monroe – scheduled for September 9th but cancelled when Hurricane Irma made her way toward the state – could instead be reinstated and be played on the first Saturday of December.

With the Noles sitting at 2-5 on the season entering this week’s game against Syracuse, the obvious sign is there why FSU football would want to make sure the game takes place against a 3-5 Warhawks team. But there are pros and cons out there when it comes to the question of this game possibly taking place.

PROS

Obviously, the Seminoles need to win out the rest of the regular season at this point if they want to go to a bowl game and continue streaks for bowls (35 seasons) and being above .500 (41 seasons). With Clemson and Florida left on the schedule, you can bet the Noles right now would finish at best 5-6 and not get either mark.

Getting to 6-6 would be huge not just for those streaks but also the additional practices that would come with making a bowl game. As evident by the way things have gone this season, FSU football needs as many practices as possible at this point.

Plus, it would be another home game for the school – which would hopefully bring some more money in to allow for the possible buyouts of certain assistant coaches who shall remain namless at this time.

CONS

In reality, the Seminoles could be putting the cart before the horse to schedule a game that becomes pointless if they loss two more games in the month of November – and after last week’s game against Boston College, nothing can be taken for granted the rest of the way.

From a public relations, it’s not a good look to literally say this game wasn’t important enough to reschedule months ago…but now that FSU football is in trouble, it becomes a needed game and the Noles look like they are backdooring into the postseason.

Finally, there is no guarantee (like I just wrote) that the Seminoles would come out with a win. Right now, the Warhawks play Auburn and have two Sun Belt Conference games against teams with winning records – though anything can happen in that conference, so they could also come in 5-6 and have something to play for more than just a seven figure paycheck.
