FSU Football: Boston College loss is the worst under Jimbo Fisher
By Jason Parker
FSU football suffered one of the worst losses in recent program history – and it was by far the worst one under their current head coach.
Since Jimbo Fisher took over as the head coach of the FSU football program before the 2010 season, the Seminoles have gone out and won nearly 80 percent of the 102 games they have played – as the program has gone 80-22 in the games that have taken place over the last seven and a half seasons.
Without question, some of those 22 defeats have been games the Seminoles would like to forget. There were blowout losses to top 10 ranked teams like Oklahoma, Oregon, Louisville and even Florida. There were games they had no business losing, like the Peach Bowl against Houston, and games that got away like this season against Miami and those Cardinals this month alone.
There were also plenty of embarrassing games that FSU had no business losing. Friday night’s blowout loss at the hands of Boston College was the worst out of any of them.
It’s not even a question at this point, as the Noles were manhandled by a team that – with all due respect intended as BC is a good team this year and deserved to win – is not 32 points better than FSU football. It wasn’t as if this was an Eagles team that will be in contention for the College Football Playoff or even the ACC Atlantic Division.
So, congrats to this year’s Seminoles team – you did it!
You topped some forgettable losses like a 2011 setback against a Wake Forest team that finished with a losing record and a loss to Georgia Tech in 2015 thanks to a blocked field goal – a Yellow Jackets team that finished with a robust 3-9 record.
There is plenty of talk about how the team looked like it quit against Boston College – which is another reason why this one tops the list. You could make an argument that even in some of those blowout losses, the team still was fighting late in the game and not giving up with time left in the second quarter.
Shortly after the game, Tallahassee Democrat columnist Corey Clark asked if this was rock bottom for FSU football:
"I don’t know if it can get any lower than getting obliterated by a program that would prefer paying for an annoying cover band than an actual marching one. I don’t know if it can get any lower than some of those camera shots we saw on the FSU sideline during the game.I just don’t know how it could get any lower."

It would be hard to argue that the FSU football program is at its lowest point since Bobby Bowden took over the program over four decades ago. If there was a nail to put in the coffin of that argument, it might be the embarrassment in the Bay State this past Friday.
