FSU Football: Revenge should not play role in game against Louisville
By Jason Parker
FSU football got embarrassed last season when they faced the Cardinals – but if the Noles want to win this year, revenge can’t play a role in the game.
It was a moment that FSU football fans and those who played in the game will not forget for a while. What was supposed to be another step toward getting back to the College Football Playoff turned into maybe the most embarrassing game in the program’s history – a 63-20 beat down at the hands of the Louisville Cardinals.
In the days leading up to the rematch between the teams – programs who are right now a combined 6-6 after starting off the year in contention for the ACC and maybe the playoff – there have been several Seminoles who have brought up the word revenge when it comes to this game. There are those who would love to run up the score on the Cards this season.
If the Seminoles want to win this week and get to .500 for the first time this season (a hard thing to say since we’re past the midpoint of October), the massacre in Louisville last season has to be the furthest thing from their mind.
As evident by the 2-3 record in which the two wins were by a combined 14 points over Wake Forest and Duke, this is not a team who can win a track meet with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner in Lamar Jackson – especially since FSU football may just have a handful of receivers available for the game since both George Campbell and Keith Gavin are out.
This is a Seminoles team that needs to think about October 21, 2017 and nothing more. This is a Noles squad who needs to realize that what took place last season has already taken place and nothing is going to erase that memory.
Trust me, there would be nothing better than to see the Seminoles lay the wood to Jackson and the Cardinals and beat them by 43 points. However, the reality is that the Noles need to work hard for even a one point win because now is the time where Louisville is most vulnerable.
After losing two straight games, including last week to Boston College, the Cards are trying to figure out what has gone wrong and now is the time where the Seminoles need to pounce and keep their ACC Atlantic foes in a slump.

With a group on offense led by James Blackman and Cam Akers – both talented, but also both true freshman – and a defense that has experience and talent in guys like Derwin James, FSU football has the talent to win this game IF they live in the present.
