The college football season is now in full swing, so let’s take a stab at trying to make some money.

We’re back with another addition of Chop Chat’s best college football bets. Last week was our first week back after missing the first week, and I’m sad to report we finished in the red with a 2-3 record. A couple of bad beats away from another 4-1 week, but that’s gambling for you.

This now puts our overall record at 9-6 after four weeks.

Recap

  • Florida -1.5 vs. Kentucky-Florida is the more talented team and seems to have found a way to score points on offense late in that Tennessee game. Loss, got bit by the hook as UF won by ONE point.
  • Wake Forest -4 vs. Appalachian St-Wake Forest is playing at another level now that teams don’t have their playbook. App St. has turned the ball over more and is the less disciplined team.  Plus Wake Forest has been more efficient in the red zone. Loss, and quite frankly WF should have lost this game but wound up winning by one. WF looking ahead to FSU?
  • Georgia Tech -8 vs. Pittsburgh-Pittsburgh has no defense and isn’t the most efficient team on offense. They’ll likely have a limited number of drives because GT will possess the ball with their run game. Win, easy cover.
  • TCU vs. Oklahoma State UNDER 71.5-TCU defense is allowing 4.4 yards per play and will likely look to run the ball and play keep away from the potent Oklahoma State offense. The clock will be rolling…Loss, this was a solid bet but lost on garbage time touchdown by TCU.
  • NC State vs. FSU UNDER 52(Bought to 52)-I don’t think NC State is going to score a ton of points against this FSU defense…FSU will likely try to get ahead with a true freshman QB in his first start and then milk the clock with the run game. Win, easy cover.

This Week’s Bets

  • Clemson vs. Virginia Tech UNDER 52-Clemson on the road against a Virginia Tech that’s been dominating inferior competition as they should. Bud Foster will bring pressure and Clemson’s QB will struggle to make plays throw the air. Clemson’s defense will cause havoc against VT’s young QB…turnovers scare me but could see lots of FG’s.
  • Northwestern vs. Wisconsin UNDER 50-Both teams are run heavy and Wisconsin has been stingy on defense. The clock will be rolling in this one.
  • FSU -7 (buy hook) vs. Wake Forest-FSU played well overall against a more talented NC State but just lost a few key battles. I expect the FSU defense to shut Wake Forest down offensively. Prolly close early and the ‘Noles pull away late as WF wears down in the trenches.
  • FSU vs. Wake Forest UNDER 47-As I said, I expect FSU to shut WF down offensively. WF will make FSU earn in on offense and the ‘Noles could be without Auden Tate in James Blackman’s first true road game.
  • Central Michigan vs. Boston College UNDER 49-Boston College’s offense has been terrible thus far and their defense should be able to limit Central Michigan.
