FSU football has finally taken the field for their home opener in the 2017 season – here’s a recap of the first 30 minutes against the Wolfpack.

It took a lot longer than expected, but FSU football has finally taken the field inside Doak Campbell Stadium as the Seminoles opened their 2017 home schedule against the N.C. State Wolfpack – the first time the Noles have taken the field in 21 days thanks to Hurricane Irma causing the cancellation of one game and the postponement of another.

After going three and out on the first drive with James Blackman at quarterback – including getting sacked once – the defense gave up two third down conversions to the Wolfpack offense, allowing N.C. State to get inside the 10 yard line before the Noles forced a field goal attempt, giving the Wolfpack the early 3-0 lead.

After a second three and out, the defense again allowed the Wolfpack to march right down the field, with Jaylen Samuels punching it on on fourth down from the two yard line to put N.C. State on top 10-0 late in the first quarter:

On the ensuing drive, the offense seemed to wake up with two long runs by Cam Akers and two completions by Blackman before Akers was stopped on third and one from inside the Wolfpack’s 40 yard line. A fourth down completion to Nyqwan Murray kept the drive going and a long pass to Auden Tate got FSU Football inside the 10 yard line, where Blackman connected again with Tate to get the Seminoles on the board:

The Seminoles’ defense got their first three and out of the game on the next drive, getting the offense the ball on the 35 yard line. FSU football had a strong drive going until Blackman fumbled the ball, which was recovered by N.C. State inside the two yard line. The defense stood strong, giving the offense the ball back with good field position and five minutes to go in the half – but another missed field goal by Ricky Aguayo left the Noles empty handed.

N.C. State would make the Seminoles pay with a 71 yard touchdown pass to make the score 17-7 with a minute and a half to go. FSU football would respond with a field goal before the half to cut the deficit to 17-10.

In the first half, Blackman went 15 of 20 for 139 yards with that one touchdown pass, while Akers led rushers with nine carries for 39 yards. The defense held the Wolfpack to 199 yards in the first half, including just 17 on the ground.
