FSU football didn’t even take the field this weekend, but saw their spot in the polls go down when all was said and done after week three action.
Don’t look now, but one third of the college football regular season has come to an end after this week’s action – you probably wouldn’t realize that since FSU football has taken the field just once over that span and even that was weeks ago. Week three of the season included a big ranked battle in the ACC that put one team in the driver’s seat for that conference.
Clemson’s big win sent them to the consensus No. 2 spot in both polls while the Seminoles found themselves dropping one spot each in both polls despite watching all the action from home. There is a consensus of who the top 10 teams are in both the AP and Coaches Polls, with several just moving a spot or two different from the other.
The weekend’s outcomes also saw one team plummet after an embarrassing loss and others make a decent move up thanks to some crazy wins. Here’s a quick look at the highlights in this week’s polls.
Biggest Move
The TCU Horned Frogs had a big win over Southern Methodist, a former rival in the Southwest Conference, that sent them up four spots in the AP poll and five spots from the coaches. Sadly, a late second Hail Mary touchdown pass also sent the rival Florida Gators up in the polls, moving up four spots from the writers and three spots from the coaches.
Biggest Drop
The LSU Tigers came into the weekend on the outside looking in of the top 10, with a decent argument being made that they could move to that neighborhood with a win. Mississippi State didn’t feel like playing along and gave the Bayou Bengals a 30 point loss, dropping LSU down 13 spots from the writers and 12 spots from the coaches. Louisville’s loss also sent them down five spots from the writers and six spots from the coaches.
ACC Still Dominating
Even with FSU football dropping in both polls, the conference is still tied for the most teams in the Top 16 of both polls as the ACC has four teams (Clemson, FSU, Va. Tech and Miami, who somehow moved up) in that group to tie them with the Big Ten. The SEC and Big 12 each have three teams while the Pac 12 has two.

The highest ranked Group of Five team also resides in the state of Florida as the USF Bulls currently sit at No. 21 in the AP poll and No. 17 in the Coaches poll.
