Teams FSU Football fans should hate along with Florida, Miami

FSU football and their fans have a full blown justified hate toward the Gators and Hurricanes – but who are some other teams that should be near that level?

Each season, FSU football fans look for two dates on the schedule that are more important than most – games against their two hated, in-state rivals: the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes. They are games that, in previous decades, were for national titles and big bowl placements – but even when they didn’t mean much, they always meant something when it came to pride.

Of late, both rivalries have become one sided to the point where the Seminoles have lost just one game against the schools in the last two seasons. Even with that, fans and alumni of Florida State will always have a full blown hate for the schools in Gainesville and Coral Gables that won’t go away even if the Noles sweep both teams for another decade.

At the same time, FSU football now faces a yearly battle with a divisional foe that is now usually for national title talk and has gone head to head with some national powers. In addition, there are past moments where a program has ruined things for the Seminoles without even playing Florida State.

Here are some of the teams that should be pretty close to the level of hate fans have for UF and UM:

Alabama Crimson Tide

Okay, the Seminoles will only be playing the men from Tuscaloosa for the second time in the last four decades when they meet next weekend, but the constant winning from Nick Saban’s team has made the whole SEC think they are just as good. That fact along is enough to hate the Crimson Tide even before this year’s epic opening weekend battle.

Clemson Tigers

You could say that this game has been the most important when it comes to championship contention over the last four season than any battle with the Gators or Canes. With the Tigers having won the last two meetings and because they wear that same God-awful orange color, they might be a solid No. 3 on the hate list at this point.

Nebraska Cornhuskers

Follow me on this one for a second: this is a team who not only is the reason that the Hurricanes have three of their national titles, but anyone who was at any bowl game (Orange or Fiesta) where they played FSU football knows these fans talked plenty of smack for a program who hadn’t done anything at that point. It may be a little person, but I have no time for the men from Lincoln.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

You know how we make fun for Miami fans that talking about national titles that haven’t been won in 16 years? Well, add 13 more years to that and you have these leprechauns from South Bend. There may be no more delusional fan base for a program that has been relevant maybe once in the last decade and a half than this group.

Ohio State Buckeyes

You want to know why the Gators have two football national titles and a basketball crown to yap about? This school right year. Laying an egg in 2006 and upsetting Arizona State in the 1996 Rose Bowl (giving UF the crown when they beat us) should get them hated by everyone. Plus, Urban Meyer is there now, so all that hate from Gainesville must continue north.

Don’t get me wrong – none of these schools will take the place of either the Hurricanes or Gators when it comes to total hate from FSU football fans. But, there is plenty of space just below those teams for any of the programs listed above.
