FSU football has plenty of expectations for the upcoming season – and one writer thinks that all that hype could lead to doom before it’s over.

By now, it’s no secret that the hopes for FSU football might be some of the loftiest in the history of the program. With a preseason ranking of No. 3 in the coaches poll and an opener with Alabama just weeks away, plenty of people think the Seminoles are going to do big things during the season – including winning the ACC and getting back to the College Football Playoff.

At the same time, the entire state of Florida is looking promising entering the season with three other FBS programs – rivals Florida and Miami along with little brother South Florida – also ranked in the first coaches poll of the preseason. The Seminoles are predicted to face the Hurricanes in the ACC title game while the Gators are a favorite to win the SEC East and the Bulls could crash the playoff party and are the favorite to make it to a New Years Six bowl.

All they hype in the Sunshine State might be hard to live up to – and one writer from the Tampa Bay Times thinks it could lead to nothing but heartache before the year is over. Tom Jones (no, not the singer) recently wrote why the preseason hype could backfire – including is reason why FSU football could fail:

"You do realize that the Seminoles open the season against the Roman Empire, right? Alabama is a touchdown favorite and the overwhelming choice to win the national championship. Even though the Seminoles will be highly ranked, it would be a major upset if FSU somehow rolled the Tide.FSU is still a really good team, and it would be no surprise if the Seminoles lost to Alabama to open the season, then got the Tide in a rematch at the end of the season for all the marbles. But FSU’s road getting there will not be easy."

Ahh, the same old reasons we have heard (and written about) before – the schedule that features Alabama along with Miami, Clemson, Louisville, Florida and more will be what keeps the Seminoles out of the picture. Yes, it’s going to be a tough road – but this isn’t the first time that FSU football has faced a difficult schedule.

The Seminoles can only do things one game at a time. Even if they do lose to Alabama, Florida State can’t dwell on that because they play the Hurricanes just two weeks later. 2017 is going to be a fun and interesting road for the Noles – and it could end with either colossal celebrations or epic disappointment.
