FSU recruiting is in a good space after a strong run the last few weeks.

I told you all seven weeks ago not to overreact to FSU recruiting after linebacker Teradja Mitchell choose Ohio State over FSU. The fan base was in an uproar with the same stuff that happen every year, basically not trusting Jimbo Fisher and the staff.

Two months later, FSU recruiting has kicked it into gear and now has the No. 7 recruiting class for 2018 according to 247 composite rankings. They also have the No. 2 class in the ACC behind Miami, but I expect that to change as it did last year.

The ‘Noles currently have 17 commitments that consist of nine four-star recruits and eight three-star recruits for a composite average of 89.05 average per player.

This puts the 2018 recruiting class at 52.9 percent blue chip.

That average and some of the rankings are a bit low, but I trust the staff in their evaluations. For instance, there’s no way Israel Mukuamu and Antoine Green are three-star recruits. Those two players should be rated as four-star recruits before it’s all said and done.

Trim the fat

I’d say there are at least two players (maybe three) currently in the class who I don’t expect to be there in the end. FSU recruiting is in the mix for some highly touted players, and I expect them to get better quality players for those two spots.

I expect FSU recruiting to finish with 58 percent blue chips or higher in this class.

What’s Next

The Justin Fields sweepstakes could tremendously influence this recruiting class. There are several blue chip players that want to play with him, and the ‘Noles are in a great position to land him.

FSU recruiting typically does their best work from this point until National Signing Day. Think of how many players in past recruiting cycles were long shots to commit to FSU at this point in the cycle, only to have Jimbo Fisher and staff to reel them in as the season went along?

Florida is surging, but their class had nowhere to go but up and Miami seems to have come to a standstill like they normally do. It’ll be interesting to see if Mark Richt can keep that class together if the Canes have another underwhelming season while losing to FSU again.

FSU recruiting is where it wants to be with most of their needs filled while looking to land blue chip players down the stretch.
